Forum Title: Scams in Texas
ODESSA, TX (KWES) -The Odessa Police Department is warning the public of a recent roofing scam. They are investigating reports involving a company called Arroyo Roofing, which sometimes have madeoff with more than $2,000. The man behind it goes by a handful of names the police know about, including Ramon and Ray Arroyo. We've had several people complain saying that they would pay him a deposit, then he would begin the work, but then he would never come back and complete it, said Steve LeSueur, with the Odessa Police Department. But these crooks seem to be jumping through a legal loophole, because as long as the company starts the roofing project, it becomes a civil matter. Which means, Odessa policecannot investigate. The times where he just disappeared, though, are up for investigation. If anyone has information about this investigation or anyone claims to be a victim of this contractor, they're encouraged to contact OPD Detective Jonathan Campbell or Odessa Crime Stoppers at (432) 333-TIPS, sad LeSueur. So how do you know if the next person that comes knocking on your door is legitimate?Police said the number one optionis research. I don't believe they're even licensed, said LeSueur. Anytime you're going to have business done, try to do research. Try to get things from other people. You know, hey how do these people do? But it's never a bad idea first to check with the Better Business Bureau. If you see something or someone suspicious around your neighborhood, call it in. Odessa Police said even the smallest tip can help. If somebody sees a suspicious person in their neighborhood, report it,' said LeSueur. If they see suspicious activity, report it. Because those types of calls that lead to arrest and prevent other criminal activity and scams from occurring. So you really have nothing to lose from reporting it. If anyone needs information about insurance fraud or if you need to file a complaint, you canfile a complaint online at or call the Texas Department of Insurance at 1-800-252-3439SOURCEJust wanted to share this. This company is starting jobs and never finishing them. Thus they are taking money for their time and never completing the work. The police can't do anything about it. This serves as a warning NOT to do business when them. Anyone in the area should spread the word.

I know it isn't fair to assume that all companies do this but it seems to be a growing problem, specially in the south.Newer companies or ones that are going bankrupt come in and pull crap like this and get away with it. This shouldn't happen.

I hate saying this but it comes down to not being able to trust long standing businesses who may or may not have money problems as well as new ones. When you don't trust new businesses though, it makes it harder for them to grow which sucks for the honest workers out there.

I will make sure I get the word out on this. I can't stand seeing people get taken advantage of. Drives me nuts. It ain't right and this company is horrible. They need to get sued.
